I would like to mod this keyboard as far as I can without breaking it.Īfter 5 hours (probably more) of measuring and drafting the dimensions of the keyboard (I could not get them from Corsair) I managed to create a white base plate cover out of thick paper. Maybe I need to use a couple toothpicks or something (please help me!) I tried using painter's tape, but it was incredibly difficult to get it down there. If someone can give me a good idea on how to mask off the letters so the light still shines through the keys, that would be great. If the inside of the keycaps are mirror, the k95 could look a LOT brighter. People have been posting pictures of their own version of this mod (I made my templates available on my Dropbox ) on my Corsair User Forums Keyboard Cover Mod post. It will take me some time to measure and draft the cut paths. I need to get my hands on some calipers so I can properly design the acrylic sheet to fit around the switches. I will instead laser cut a thin sheet of white acrylic to fit around the switches from the top. Not gunna happen (unless you guys REALLY want, these keyboards are expensive!) ![]() I was thinking of painting the entire keyboard white (I have a black/white themed build) however, I took the keyboard apart and found that to get to the brushed aluminum sheet, I would have to de-solder ALL the switches. I am thinking of doing a repair guide for this keyboard after I finish modding it, especially if I end up taking it apart again. I think there are better ways to change the color though. If I really thought it was worth it, I could do it. This was a little disappointing because it means that if I want to paint the aluminum plate, then I have to de-solder every single switch. Here is where I discovered that the aluminum plate has to be installed before the switches are soldered onto the PCB. There were two hidden screws-one under the corsair logo and one under the right volume roller guard. Next, I found and removed the 30 screws on the front face of the keyboard. It also happens to work since I can repair these things (yay now I have an office keyboard everyone will be jealous of!)įirst, I removed the keycaps. The one on the left is water-damaged and I have it to prototype all my mods. I opened up the keyboard just to familiarize myself with how Corsair put it together. I am in the planning stages for the first mod, and I am going to share it with you guys. they changed the Bios hotkey, Unplug the keyboard, hold down B and S, plug it in and continue holding until num lock caps lock scroll lock are all lit.Hey guys, I have owned my k95 rgb for half a year now and I love it, but I want to mod it. I don't see any physical switch on the device, and that button combination does not seem to do anything on this model.Ĭurrently, I keep a second keyboard under my desk that I use just for boot up, which of course is not ideal.ġ) Does anyone know how to get into BIOS Mode for this model (if it exists)?Ģ) Does anyone know if this issue would be resolved if I had a newer PC running EFI instead of BIOS? When I search for solutions, I see references to a "BIOS mode" that would either be a physical switch or holding "F1 + Windows Lock" for 3 seconds. That said, I do need a working keyboard before OS for certain keystrokes, or my OSes do not launch. I do not have this issue with any of my other USB keyboards. ![]() It is otherwise completely unresponsive during BIOS/POST screens and some boot loaders. I recently purchased a K95 Platinum XT but noticed it cannot be used until an Operating System launches. That said, I'm overall still satisfied with Corsair's products in general. It's clear that the support person I was speaking with didn't have access to the same keyboard model to test for himself, or he would've quickly realized it just doesn't work. In other words, I no longer need to have a "BIOS mode." So, I asked them to just close the case. I'm running on a Gigabyte x570 Aorus Master now. In my case, I wound up "fixing" it by upgrading my system. Ultimately they ended up offering an RMA, but I didn't want to risk getting some refurb replacement for an otherwise perfectly new keyboard. From what I've seen and heard from others as well, I'm pretty confident that the newest "XT" version of the keyboard just does not have a BIOS mode in it.Ĭorsair support was adamant that it still does, but none of the various instructions they provided worked. I didn't have any real progress with Corsair support. ![]() I didn't realize that I had a response to this thread.
